ANGELA MACDOUGALL

Marriage & Family Therapist #99331

I am a licensed psychotherapist located in Redding, California.  I wholeheartedly believe in the healing power of psychotherapy.  Whether it involves working on coping strategies, communication & relational skills or underlying issues, it is often beneficial to talk to someone trained to help. I take a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. I spend a lot of time researching and practicing healthy living with the ultimate goal of being able to pass what really works on to my clients.

I have a masters degree in counseling psychology from National University and am trained in trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, eye movement desensitization reprocessing (E.M.D.R.), as well as play & sand tray therapy for working with younger children.

I was born & raised here in Redding.  I went to college at age 15, graduating Shasta at age 16, Simpson University at 18 and National University with my masters at 21.  While working on my internship hours I was a school therapist at many different schools K-12 in Shasta & Tehama Counties.  I have been married to my husband who is a local contractor for 9 years, and we have a 7 year old daughter.

I always knew I had a desire to help people but I didn’t know that psychology would be my path until I went to college and heard the incredible stories of healing that my professors had witnessed.  They were also the most authentic, straight forward and open minded type of people I had met.  I am fascinated by the science between the brain and human behavior, and deeper into my training I found my niche in studying traumatic memory, depression, addiction & anxiety.

The relationship between clients and their therapist is vital to success and I encourage anyone looking for a therapist to meet with multiple clinicians to find a good fit.  As a therapist, I take an honest and straightforward approach.  I believe that we all have what we need to thrive inside of us, and sometimes we need someone to help us lure it out, piece together and show us how to get it and hold onto it and use it to better our lives and relationships.  When we can’t see things or ourselves clearly anymore we need a fresh set of eyes and a mirror to help us get there.
